Students fight pitched battles with police

Chalo Assembly, OU studentsEven as the TRS MLA Mr Etela Rajender threatened to obstruct the proceedings of the assembly till a resolution on the formation of Telangana state is introduced in the state assembly and in Parliament, Hyderabad turned tense today with students fighting pitched battles at several key points in the city as part of their ‘Chalo Assembly’.

Police replied with teargas shells to disperse and control violent students who burnt a train and damaged a railway station in the city.

Police, however, foiled bid for laying a seize to the Assembly by the students of Osmania University and arrested Telangana Praja Front chairman and revolutionary balladeer Mr Gaddar who led the students from Ambedker statue on Tank Bund.

Police, who were posted in large numbers throughout city, resorted to the use of tear gas to disperse violent students at the ladies hostel on the OU campus and also at the Nizam College hostel in the Basheer Bagh when the students did not respond to the calls of police to go back. Several groups of students conducted rallies and proceeded towards assembly.

Students and T     activists burnt a train at Jamai Osmania railway station and damaged some furniture and window glasses at the Necklace Road railway station. When police tried to barge into the Nizam college hostel, students pelted stones on police who replied with tear gas. Earlier, Telangana political JAC chairman Professor Kodanda ram flagged off the rally of students at the Arts College in OU campus for their ‘Chalo Assembly’.

Lawyers rally Raj Bhavan

Lawyers of Telangana region, raising slogans against the governor ESL Narasimhan, took out a rally to the Raj Bhavan today to lay a seize to it but they were arrested by police.
