Enraged at the lackadaisical approach of the Union Ministers Chidambaram and Pranab Mukherjee, Congress leaders, MPs, MLAs and MLCs of the T region today reportedly decided to write a final letter to the party president Sonia Gandhi.
The 69-member T congress group, which came to Delhi and met with the two Union Ministers on Wednesday, today held consultations among themselves in the house of MP Mr Komatireddy Rajagopal reddy and decided to write a letter to the party president with an ultimatum to take decision on Telangana by June 30.
The T congress leaders decided to write that they will submit their resignation on July 1 and will take up fast-unto- death programme if no decision is announced on or before June 30. Union Minister Jaipal reddy has also assured his support to the initiative, according to sources.
I am helpless: PC
Chidambaram told the Telangana congress leaders that he can’t independently take a decision on the Telangana issue. He told them that the congress party leadership has not yet taken a decision on the issue. “Let the party president take a decision on the issue. Then I will conduct an all party meeting to discuss it,” Chidambaram told the delegation of the congress leaders of the Telangana region and asked them to put pressure on Sonia Gandhi to take the decision immediately.
Pranab Mukherjee’s assurance
Later, the delegation met the Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Ahmad Patel, political secretary to the party president. Both of them told the congress leaders that they would convey the necessity of taking an immediate decision on the issue to the party president Sonia Gandhi soon after her return from abroad.
