Money lender takes away borrowers spouse for non repayment

For balance dues the moneylender took away the borrowers wife and went on to threaten the borrower that if the amount is not repaid shortly, the wife would be sold. The incident occurred in Nizamabad district, on Thursday and incidentally both the families were related too. To what extent people would go for money came to light in this horrendous incident. Arolla Chiranjivi (35), the borrower complained to the police about the incident.

According to the police, Chiranjivi had borrowed `19,000 last year for constructing a house from one Bakkanna of Nakkalagutta village in Korutla mandal of Karimnagar district. He had partially repaid the amount.  However, on November 30, Bakkanna came to Vaddepally and asked Chiranjivi to pay the balance with interest. As Chiranjivi did not have the money with him, Bakkanna reportedly forcefully took Mamata, Chiranjivi’s wife, with him. Bakkanna even threatened to sell Mamata for `50,000 if the outstanding amount was not repaid.

When all his efforts to have his wife released failed, Chiranjivi approach-ed Yedapally police and lodged a complaint against the money lender. Yedapally police sub-inspector Sudhakar said that they have taken Bakkanna into custody and Mamata was freed on Thursday. He said that Chiranjivi and Bakkana are relatives. No kidnapping charge was filed as it was a “family affair,” Mr Sudhakar opined, adding that the police was verifying the details.
