Cold wave kills 140 in North India

Cold wave sweeping across North India, accompanied by thick fog and low visibility, had killed 140 people so far in the winter.

The low visibility had also resulted in disruption of train movements in several states and hit normal life in many cities and towns.

While in the Kashmir Valley, cold wave conditions continued unabated with minimum temperatures going several degrees below the freezing point, normal life was also disrupted in many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi.

There is a heavy snow fall in Himachal Pradesh and in Delhi the temperatures stood at 6 degrees Celsius.

Thick columns of fog had reduced the visibility in many cities including Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Jalandhar,  Rohtak, Karnal, Ambala, Panipat and Kurukshetra. (JUBS)
