Six tons red sanders, seized in Chittoor district

Forest officials of the Chittoor district waylaid the illegal transportation of red sanders. The officers intercepted three Lorries and a Sumo LCV in a pre dawn coup to seize the logs. Initial estimates reveal that approximately six tons of red sanders were seized. The seized logs would be worth lakhs in the market.

The forest sleuths who were on a regular patrol found a convoy of three lorries lead by a Sumo moving suspiciously at Nagayyagari village in  Chandragiri mandalam, in the early hours of the day. Despite signal from the officials the convoy was speeding away. After some chase the officials intercepted the convoy only to be encountered with a pelting stones by the offenders. Officials dared the stones and counter attacked the miscreants. In the melee the smugglers fled into the forests leaving the vehicles.
