A faux pas was committed by CM Kirankumar reddy at the famous Sammakka-Sarakka temple at Medaram in Warangal district this morning when the Pattuvastralu meant for the Goddesses had slipped out from his hands and fallen on the floor.
While some eye witnesses confirmed the incident, temple officials said it was the officials who slipped the divine clothes to the ground and not the chief minister.
Devotees however argue that the incident indicates a bad omen for the state in the coming days and said such an incident should not have taken place in the first instance.
Later, endowments minister C. Ramachandraiah offered the clothes to the deities on behalf of the government.
Kirankumar reddy, accompanied by Tirupati MLA Mr Chiranjeevi and Ministers C. Ramachandraiah and Balaraju, earlier arrived at Medaram to have darshan of the deities and offer the Pattuvastrams ahead of the tribal festival.
The temple officials stopped darshan for nearly five hours today because of the CM’s visit. Four women, who were made to wait in the sun because of the VIP visit, fainted and were hospitalized.
While the CM offered 78 kg of jaggery to the Goddesses in tune with his weight, Chiranjeevi offered 81.5 kg of jaggery to equate his weight. It has been customary for the VIPs to donate jaggery equaling their weight during the tribal festival when they visit the Goddesses Sammakka and Sarakka and have their darshan. (JUBS)
