Swamy’s plea for Chidambaram’s prosecution dismissed

In a major relief to the Centre and the Congress leadership, the CBI special court of Delhi today dismissed the plea of Janata Party President Subramanyam Swamy to prosecute Home Minister P Chidambaram in the 2G case.

Delivering the verdict, special judge OP Saini said there is not enough ground to prosecute the Home Minister in the 2G scam.

Dr. Swamy had filed a petition in the court seeking to make Chidambaram co-accused and prosecute him in the 2G spectrum scam alleging he was equally responsible as former Telecom Minister A. Raja for the scam.

The Supreme Court bench, consisting of justices G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly, only two days ago dismissed a petition by Dr Swamy seeking directions to CBI to investigate the role of Mr. Chidambaram and left it to the Special Court to decide on the issue. The court also asked the trial court not to be influenced by its verdict. (JUBS)
