Today, Jan 9th 2013 marks 30 years of TDP in existence in Andhra Pradesh. It was today when NTR mobilized the people of Andhra Pradesh as he said that the state, the Telugu nation, was every worker's, farmer's, laborer's, and poor person's mother land.
It is no exaggeration to state that the major developments in the state have occurred during the TDP regime when it revolutionized the state bringing IT sector into AP.
NTR for the first time on March 29, 1982 announced that he would establish a party by the name Telugu Desam Party. He also organized an open meet in Nizam grounds, Hyderabad, for the first time on April 11, the very next month. The admiration he received when he hailed the self-respect of the Telugu speaking people was his fuel for the years to come. He never had to look back again in his life.
He went around the state traveling almost 3500 kms, starting from Tirupati, while talking to the people and learning their voes. People identified his leadership qualities during his long tour. He was the unanimous choice of the people in the polling on Jan 5th 1983.
There was no regard to who the party representatives were; it was NTR that every person saw in the party. One Man Army who swept all the votes winning in 203 seats. This was the first time Congress was displaced from power in AP. On Jan 9th 1983, NTR had sworn in as the Chief Minister of the state vowing to make radical changes to AP at the LB Shastry Stadium, Hyderabad, exactly 30 years ago.
