The Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi expressed his satisfaction over the hanging of the Mohammad Afzal Guru, a Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist. On his tweeter handle, BJP leader tweeted 'Der aye, durust aye (It's better to be late than never).' The statements gains prominence as the leader is posed to be the prime minister candidate for the 2014 elections.
Afzal Guru had been accused to be the mastermind behind the attack on the parliament in 2001, in which nine people mostly from the security forces were killed. The attack on the epitome of democracy revealed the vulnerability of the government structures and since then security plans have been modified for maximum protection.
Afzal Guru was sentenced for capital punishment by the Supreme Court in 2004. But later in 2006 he had applied for mercy plea and the sentence was kept in abeyance. However the plea was rejected by the Hon'ble President of India on January 23, this year. (Wishesh AarKay)
