In the Maoists attack today in the State of Bihar on Dhanbad-Patna Intercity train, three persons died and six passengers and Railway Guard were injured. Out of the dead one was a RPF Constable, one was a police constable and one was a passenger.
As per Viday Bhushan Pandey incharge of the Railway Protection Special Force, Maoists boarded the train probably at Kundar pulled the chain at Bhalui after the train left Kundar and travelled a small distance. Then 150 Maoists including women got into the train seized it between Jamui and Kundat. In order to terrorise the passengers and the security staff they used bombs and went on indiscriminate shooting.
When the RPSF started combating with the Naxals, Constable Sukhdeo Deonath was killed. The security personnel also had to calm the scared passengers so that they would not jump from the train which would have caused more casualties. The firing went on for 30 minutes at a place where only forest and hills are existent.
The Government of India announced a compensation of Rs.5.00 lakhs to the families of the dead and Rs.1.00 lakh for the injured.
