Home Ministry issues Appointed Day

The Union Home Ministry on Tuesday night issued the Appointed Day for the Telangana state and June 2nd will be the day where two Telugu states will come into being. This Appointed Day was announced hours before the Election Commission of India (ECI) is set to announce the elections schedule and as the election code will come into play, the Home Ministry in rush officially announced the Appointed Day. Also this gave rise to speculations that Parliament and Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh could be held separately.

Currently Andhra Pradesh is under President's Rule and Assembly is in suspension mode. The Assembly tenure will complete on June 2nd. Also Election Commission opined that if the Appointed Day is issued before May 31st, then it would be difficult to hold elections and so accordingly the Home Ministry fixed the Appointed Day on June 2nd.

Andhra Pradesh re-organization bill was signed by President of India on March 1st but the Appointed date was not mentioned as Home Minister Shinde said he would held discussions with the government and then decide the date.
