High court verdict on GHMC elections

Finally the verdict of High court regarding the GHMC elections has come out.  The details are as follows.

The court specified 6 months duration to conduct the elections, by December 16th , the elections should take place.

By October 31st, the reservation of bifurcation of wards should also be completed .

If this is the situation, the government lawyer asked for more than 6 months duration, but court rejected the lawyer's request saying that the special officers are already ruling in the state, so at this point of time it is not possible to give additional time.

The election commission made a special request to High court asking for at least one and a half month time after October 31st, However the response of the court is yet to be known.

The present wards are 150 and after the addition of the new wards, the count increases to 172. The term of GHMC's present body ends on December 3. So the government has to conduct fresh elections within six months with no choice left.

These orders were reviewed  by the Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and then issued finally. KCR also proposed  to trifurcate GHMC and has also decided to list all the backward classes simultaneously. Out of the total wards, 33 per cent have to be allotted to BCs.

However there is a very high variation in the number of voters in each wards. few wards contain 10000 members and in some other wards, the count is even nearing 100000.
