KCR ordered the officials to perform Harithaharam as the people’s programme and not the government.
As mentioned before, Harithaharam was officially launched yesterday and the Telangana officials participated in the programme. Speaking on the occasion, Telangana Chief Minister KCR said that, if the tree plantation programme is regularly taken up as a mass movement, then the state can soon overcome the drought and unseasonal conditions in just three to four years.
“Due to degradation of forest cover, the state is witnessing drought and unseasonal conditions for the last few years because of chopping of the trees. It should be remembered that, trees are the source for the rains, it prevents the depletion of groundwater table and usher in overall prosperity for the people, state and the country,” KCR said.
After offering special prayers at the Chilkuru Balaji temple, the programme Harithaharam was officially launched at Chilkur in Moinabad mandal, Rangareddy district. He asked the teachers to mould the students as “Haritha sainikulu.”

From next year, the government will provide saplings of their choice to the farmers and directed all the district collectors to take steps for the same.
“This to motivate farmers and villagers to plant fruit-bearing trees around houses and near agricultural lands,” he said and added that due to the fast-disappearing forest cover, wild animals are venturing into villages and towns.
