Manmohan Singh’s stepbrother to take responsibility in BJP

Daljeet Singh Kohli, stepbrother of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, had joined BJP at a pre-poll rally in Amritsar amid much fanfare in the presence of its PM-pick Narendra Modi and Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal. Kohli is waiting for an official post in the party. He will be meeting Union finance minister Arun Jaitley during the latter's visit to Amritsar and would take up the matter with him.

"Yes, I'll meet Jaitley," Kohli told on Sunday. "I've been in touch with him over the phone, but let me make it clear that I never joined the party for any position."

Kohli said that he had joined the BJP following an alleged slander campaign against his elder brother, Manmohan unleashed by the Gandhi family. "That was my only grudge (against) the Congress," he said. "It was my decision and I stand by it. I also wish great success to Modi and the BJP government, but at the same time I've cordial relations with my brother Manmohan Singh."

On April 25, 2014, Modi had welcomed Kohli to the BJP with a big hug. "Today, the PM's brother, Daljeet Singh, has joined the BJP," Modi had said. "This will further strengthen us. We are not a party which talks of membership but one which forms relations."

Kohli's decision to join the saffron party was seen as an embarrassment for the Congress and a victory for Modi. But his "sacrifice" is not rewarded since the BJP high command did not appoint him to any post and for that he is having a grudge.

Kohli has already expressed his mind to the party leaders to give him some official position so that he can work for the party. People who were in the party for long also have conveyed the high command regarding their concerns of not taking into confidence the real grassroot workers of the party.

BJP’s success in the Lok Sabha elections have prompted many eminent persons to join the party. This has also created flutter in the partythat the people who were in the party for long has been discriminated and favours are parted to the new comers.
