Six Months Injunction On Triple Talaq:- Triple Talaq has been named as a controversial practise which has been allowing Muslim men to leave their wives after uttering the word Talaq (divorce) thrice. Now the country’s biggest court Supreme Court announced the verdict to stop the practise for the next six months. It even ordered the Indian Parliament to bring out new laws against Triple Talaq. The Supreme Court also revealed that injunction on Triple Talaq will continue if a law doesn’t come into existence in the next six months.
Triple Talaq has been legal for Muslims as per the constitution however it turned out to be a huge headache for women who have been simply divorced through Skype and Whatsapp. Some of the muslim women challenged the practise in Supreme Court after which the court announced its decision. A constitution bench of five judges who belong to different faiths - Chief Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar, Justice Kurian Joseph, Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman, Justice Uday Umesh Lalit and Justice S. Abdul Nazeer heard the response of several Muslim women from May 12th to May 18th.
After this the highest court wanted to know if Triple Talaq has been fundamental to Islam. All India Muslim Personal Law Board discussed with the committee of judges and they called the practise as sinful and undesirable. It was after considering the decisions of various Muslim committees; the group of judges announced the verdict today. Though the Government back the petitioners, they wanted the Supreme Court to reveal their decision after which they would proceed. Three of the five judges from the bench said that the practise of Triple Talaq must be struck down.
