India lost the opportunity of winning its first one-day cricket series in South Africa on Friday by losing the fourth of the series to the host team. India lost the rain-interrupted mach by 48 runs as per the rules of the Duckworth-Lewis method leveling the series 2-2. The deciding final match will now be played on Sunday.
India, instead of displaying spirited play to punish South Africa after reaching 118, ran into trouble in reaching the target of 266 runs under flood lights. Match was interrupted by rain when the visitors were on 137 for six in 31.3 overs.
After resuming the play, India needed 123 runs to win off 87 balls but match was again put off due to rain after only eight balls were bowled by the hosts. As the play did not resume due to continuous rain, the match was decided in favour of South Africa by the Duckworth-Lewis method. Virat Kohli remained not out on 87 in the lost match.
