No. 18 American Sam Querrey was the first of the men’s seeded players to be eliminated, losing 5-7, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 8-6 to Lukasz Kubot.
No. 23 Nikolay Davydenko became the second ranked player to fall, losing to German Florian Meyer 3-6, 6-4, 7-6, 6-4.
Meanwhile, No. 12 Gael Monfils and No. 16 Mardy Fish rallied from two sets down to win their respective matches.
Monfils battled back in the third set to defeat former world junior champion Thiemo de Bakker 6-7 (2-7) 2-6 7-5 6-2 6-1, while Fish had to fight to get past Romanian Victor Hanescu 2-6 4-6 6-3 7-5 6-3.
8-seed Andy Roddick cruised to a 6-1, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Jan Hajek.
