Will India pull a miracle at Hobart?

With India being crushed to an 87-run defeat by Australia in the tri one-day series international at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday, the demoralized Indian team needs to show a miracle by defeating Sri Lanka with a bonus point when the two sides clash tomorrow at Hobart to keep its remote chances of making to the finals alive.

In reply to Australia’s 252 for nine, India lost all the wickets for 165 in 39.3 overs pushing itself to the danger zone of missing out the finals.

While man-of-the-match award winner David Warner top scored for the Aussies with 68 off 66 balls, Matthew Wade (56 off 66) and David Hussey (54 off 64) also scored half-centuries. For India, tail ender Ravi Ashwin top scored with 26 off 37 balls.

Bonus points are earned when a team wins a match with a run rate of 1.25 times higher than that of the losing side. If India fails to win the tomorrow’s match with a bonus point, it will have to leave the Australian shores with humiliation.

Australia has earned 19 points from seven matches and is through to the finals of the Commonwealth Bank ODI Triangular series. India has earned only 10 points from the equal number of matches. (JUBS)
