India scales to a newer peaks at the London Olympics 2012, early this month. The nation of billions doubled its medals tally from its previous run in Beijing in 2008. This time India claimed around 6 medals and all the six medalists Gagan Narang, Vijay Kumar, Saina Nehwal, Mary Kom, Yogishwar Dutt and Sushil Kumar received a tumultuous welcome back home. The six were awarded and rewarded well by many associations. And prominently they garnered the President's audience which had elated them.
However Saina Nehwal should have been the happiest of the lot, as she hails from a state that could gift the ace player a brand new BMW car. And of all the things the car gifted by the Hyderabad Badminton Association was presented by her hero Sachin Tendulkar. Overwhelmed on the occasion the elated player said that the bronze in the Olympics only increased her commitment towards the game. She said that from hence she would train all her strengths to achieve better, as always.
On the other hand, ace Indian test player V V S Laxman retired from International cricket. Lakshman who had played in 134 test matches has scored nearly 17 centuries and amassed 8,781 runs, which also had 56 half centuries. The batting prowess also played some splendid knocks in his 86 ODIs. He also scored six centuries and 10 half centuries in his total score of 2,338 runs. The sad departure of this maestro does hurt Indian fans in general. (With inputs from internet-AW AarKay)
