Tony Greig noble cricketer passes away

Legendary former skipper of the England team Tony Greig passed away in Sydney after being diagnosed with a lung disorder. The 66-years old veteran of sports was suffering from an advanced stage cancer of the lung.

The former skipper had played for England between 1972-77. He was a part of the team in 58 tests and 22 ODIs. The right handed batsman scored 8 test centuries in a total test score of 3,599. He was also a right handed medium pacer of the team and capture 141 wickets in his test career. The veteran captained England in 14 tests.

Greig was fighting against the disease with the same spirits as he displayed in his oval days. He had the first hint of the dreaded disease in August-September which in a short span had taken him away, from his fans.

More than his cricketing career the doyen would be remembered for his lovely stint as a commentator. His humorous arguments especially with former Australian Captain Bill Lawry were the most entertaining schedules, even on a boring match day for the viewers, the last three decades. The all rounder was always seen punching the outfield with his car key to certify the moisture content at the playing arena.

The Packer's Nine Network commentator is the most admired  person in the commentary box across the world, for his outspoken proficiency and long lasting memory. Be it a dig at the player or a praise, Sir Tony was upright and context based. Wishesh prays for his ardent soul to rest in peace.  (Wishesh AarKay)
