Darbar Analysis
The first half of Darbar starts on a decent note and the film picks up the pace soon. The film relies completely on the charisma of Rajinikanth. Though the film lacks an interesting plot, AR Murugadoss manages to keep the audience engaging through Rajinikanth's characterization and performance. The songs and action episodes are decent. Though some of the episodes are laced with Tamil flavor, they will appeal for hardcore Rajinikanth fans. With an interesting interval bang, the first half of Darbar looks engaging and decent.
The second half of the film starts on a racy note with a gripping screenplay but soon it loses pace. The action episodes are the major highlights of the film and they are a treat to watch. The film dips down badly during the pre-climax episodes and make the film predictable. The climax looks simple and ends up on a decent note. The second half sounds below average.
Performance
Rajinikanth tops the show with his energetic performance. He performed with ease in the action episodes and is a treat to watch in the role of a cop. Nayanthara has an interesting role and the actress performs well in the emotional episodes. Nivetha Thomas gets a challenging role and she does well too. Suniel Shetty essays the role of a rugged mafia don and he is a treat to watch. He locks horns with Rajinikanth in the role and he does it with perfection. All the other actors have done their parts well.
Darbar has a lean plot and it is laced around the character of Rajinikanth. The film is based completely on the performance of Rajinikanth. Some of the episodes look racy. The dialogues have been decent and the music doesn't appeal to many. The background score is one of the major highlights and the cinematography work elevates several episodes. The production values have been quite grand. AR Murugadoss steps out with a safe bet but the film appeals strictly to Rajinikanth's fans.
Darbar Final Word
Darbar is neither a disappointment not an impressive one. It relies completely on the characterization and performance of Rajinikanth alone. Darbar will appeal to hardcore Rajinikanth's fans.
