Carefully reviewing the contents of the text book and meticulous preparation of cheat sheets will help you commit the most important parts of the book to your memory to a certain leve. Once you are done with the preparation, merely glancing will help you understand the concise notes better.

In the end, not only have you glanced through the whole syllabus briefly, but you also have quick notes to prepare and refresh your memory on the exam day.

Such preparation of cheat sheets will eliminate your need to use them. However, if you are being plain lazy since you already have the cheet sheets, prepare to be caught in the exam! Do Not Cheat in the tests.
