The Enforcement Directorate has identified properties of Kalaignar TV worth Rs.215 Cr spread across Tamil Nadu with most of them being located at Chennai.
The Directorate has begun its process of building up proceedings for attaching the properties under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). This is in continuation of the probe into the 2G spectrum Scam by the Directorate.
The Directorate presented a report on the 2G Scam to the Supreme Court earlier this month and assured that the properties would be attached in a month.
The former Chief Minister Karunanidhis’s wife Dayalu Ammal and his daughter Kanimozhi, a Rajya Sabha Member, hold 80% of the share in Kalaignar TV and the balance 20% is held by Sharad Kumar, the Channel’s Managing Director.
Kalaignar TV invested in real estate to the tune of 200 Cr which it had allegedly received from Shahid Balwa’s DB Realty.
Incidentally, two directors of the TV channel, Kanimozhi, and Sharad Kumar are in Tihar Central Jail.
