Ajit Singh to meet Air India Unions

There has been no breakthrough in the strike of Air India pilots, which has entered its 14th day today.  The 14-day deadline on sickness came to an end on Sunday and pilots didn’t resume their duties. Therefore, all the agitating pilots will most likely undergo complete medical board before they are allowed to fly.

Meanwhile, the strike of Air India pilots is continuing to put the Air India management in a fix. Since the management has already faced grave loss due to the ongoing strike, the civil aviation minister now plunged into the action to resolve the problem and end the strike. As a part of the same, aviation minister Ajit Singh is scheduled to meet the recognized Air India unions.

The Indian Pilots Guild (IPG), which has been playing an active role in the strike of pilots was, however, not invited by Ajit Singh for meeting citing that IPG is a de-recognized union. The sources close to Air India have said that the management is now only flying just international-bound flights instead of 16 flights only due to the strike.

The pilots have been demanding for releasing the arrears besides laying down three more condition including the promotion within six months of joining and permitting the pilots for travelling on business class when they are not on duty.

Now that the aviation minister is all set to hold talks with the unions only to put an end to the crisis, will pilots of Air India resume their works is a million dollar question.    (Phani)
