In a sensational move, the Maharashtra Government has taken a stringent decision for putting a check to female infanticide. It has decided to bring female fetecide under IPC Sec 320 (grievious injury). The proposal has been sent to the Centre. The Maharashtra health minister Suresh Shetty has told the legislative assembly that the decision. He has also said that in case the government nods to it, then doctors, who resort to abortions, can be interrogated as an accused in the murder case.
It may be noted that female fetecide is one of the burning problems of the country. The issue gained much significance of Aamir Khan's Satyamev Jayate focussed on how even educated women were also forced to undergo abortions after doctors ascertained that they were carrying female fetuses.
