I will preserve protect and defend the constitution of India: President Pranab Mukerjee

Pranab Muherjee had sworn in at the Central Hall of the Parliament as the 13th President of India and has said in his  first speech as a President that the would strive to preserve, protect and defenc the constitution of India.

He took the oath as administered by the Chief Justice of India SH Kapadia and was given a 21-gun salute after the swearing in ceremony. Here is the chonological order of things that had happened since the morning.

At 9:00 am,  he started from his residence and was on his way to Rajghat to pay his respects to Mahatma Gandhi to make an auspicious start to his duties as the 13th President of India.

At 9:25 am Pranab Mukherjee, the president elect, had reached Rajghat.

At: 9:40 am he had started to Veer Bhumi before his oath at the Parliament.

At 10:00 am he visited the Shakti Sthal to pay respects to Indira Gandhi, the first woman Prime Minister of India. Later he left to meed the outgoing President Prathibha Patil who is to preside over her fina guard of honor.

At 10:40 am Pranab Mukherjee had reached Rashtrapathi Bhavan, he met Prathibha Patil

At 11:10 am President Pratibha Patil and President elect Pranab Mukherjee had set out to the Parliament

At 11:18 am Pranab and Pratibha reach the parliament and the swearing-in ceremony is to begin in 12 minutes at around 11:30 am.

At 11:23 am Members of Parliament who are to attend the ceremony are greeted by Pranab Mukherjee and Pratibha Patil. National Anthem was played as they greeted.

At 11:30 am Pranab Mukherjee has been officially declared the 13th President of India after he sworn in as the President at the Central Hall of the Parliament.

Meanwhile at the President's Village, his sister Annapurna prayed that his life as a President would not be marred and remain untainted.

At 11:40 am Pranab delivered his first speech as the 13th President of India in which he pledged to preserve, protect and defend the constitution of India.
