Assam violence caused by ilegal immigration: L K Advani

Senior leader of BJP L K Advani said on Tuesday that the Assam violence was major result of the illegal immigration of the people from Bangladesh. This had also led provoked the Centre to take the issue more seriously than it is now.

"The root cause of the violence in Assam is illegal immigration from Bangladesh. The Supreme Court too has taken a serious note of this," he said.

The violence has been the result of the synergistic play between three different factors; insecurity of land, enthnic war of the Bodos and Muslims, and the demographic changes in the whole of Assam. "The people of Assam are feeling that they will be left in minority in their state. This is a serious threat to the unity, integrity and the security of India," he added

He also said that the government should respect the directions of the Supreme Court on the illegal migration from Bangladesh. They should be identified and deported back to their country.

The problem is not Hindy vs Muslim but rather a problem of Indian vs foreigner he opined.

An awareness in the country should be brought on the issue whilst involving the political parties. He also asked for an updated register of national citizens of India to be made. The non-Indians should also be removed from the voters list.
