On Wednesday, Australian police had a jackpot finding over 585 Kgs of Methamphetamine which had an estimated street value of Australian $438 million (USD $446 million). In an operation conducted by the state police of New South Wales and the federal officers, over 585 Kgs (1,287 pounds) of the narcotic, popularly known as ice or crystal (crystal meth) was seized by the police.
The street names come from the transparent ice like appearance of the drug crystals which are popular among addicts to get "high". The police were not willing to reveal the details, according to Australian press agencies but the street value of the seizure was confirmed.
It is expected that they will display their haul today to the press. Only last December in Australia, there was a cocaine shipment worth Aus$77 million that was seized. It was being sent to Australia from Chile.
