Jains are now Minorities

In a bid to cash the upcoming general elections, Congress led UPA government is leaving no stone to woo the public and so the Union cabinet on Monday granted Minority status to Jain Community (followers of an ancient faith often confused to be a sect of Hinduism). Jain community is the sixth community to attain minority status. Other five communities that have been granted the status of minority are Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Parsis.

Over 50 lakh people will benefit with this proposal and now Jain community will get a share in the central fund that is regulated under the welfare programmes and scholarships for the minority after the decision is notified under Section 2(c) of the National Commission for Minorities Act 1992.

Ironically cabinet cleared this decision after Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi met leaders of Jain community on Sunday. Jain Community have welcomed the decision of government and thanked Rahul Gandhi for his initiative.
