‘Indian film Industry mein film makers ki kameein nahi hai’, but there are only few such directors, who make their Identity, right from their first film onwards, and there are few more directors who make a difference with their films, and tend to continue the same, in each film they make. Their ideology towards Cinema, film making are completely out of the box. I strongly feel, Director Shankar belongs to a category of directors, who make a difference with their films.
Born on 17th August 1963 in Tamil Nadu, completed Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Shankar who was always passionate towards film making, joined as a Assistant Director under Veteran Directors like S.A. Chandra Shekhar, Pavithran. Shnakar managed to work as a Assistant Director under these directors, for couple of films. In 1993, Shankar made an outstanding Directorial Debut with a Tamil film ‘Gentlemen’ starring Actor Arjun in the lead role. This was a biggest experiment that any debutant Director could even think of doing, as this film highlights the prevailing reservation and all those high donations charged by the Educational Institutions, even for the Top rankers. A.R. Rahman composed the Music Scores for this film and everything put in place, director Shankar’s clarity towards the sequences directed by him and the script written by him, went hand in hand and the film turned out to be Block Buster.
Right from his first film onwards, there was no looking back for Director Shankar. Be it ‘Oke Okkadu’, ‘Premikudu’, ‘Jeans’, ‘Shivaji’, ‘Robot’, ‘Premiste’, and so on, every film managed to get him prestigious awards and a lot of recognition to the producer. Shankar, Apart from being a director is a film maker and script writer, who writes most of his films and directs the same, and he is one such Director, whose films have a huge market not only in Tamil and Telugu film industry, but even in B – Town. To quote with, his last release ‘Robot’ is the best example that earned a lot of revenue in India and also in the overseas market for the film maker.
As of now, Shankar is busy directing his forthcoming film ‘Namban’, (B – Town film ‘3 Idiots’ remake).
Andhrawishesh wishes a very Happy Birthday to this Veteran Director of Indian Cinema and a prosperous year ahead!
