The gate crasher or the fence jumper who joined the Indian Olympic contingent in the prestigious march past in the Opening Ceremony at the London Olympics 2012, was of course identified. However observers have been quite apprehensive over the behavior of Ms Madhura Nagendra, a graduate student from the southern city of Bangalore who had been living in London. By defying laws she has not only brought ill-repute to India, but also to the hosting nation. Her presence only showed the lapses of security in the world's most prestigious games.
Whether on the behest of a suggestion by someone of the organizers, or by sheer guts to do things different or whatever! The act was offensive at large and was quite embarrassing to onlookers. Especially the dress code difference, did play against the morale of the Indian team and she was brightly different. "We are totally dazed," Indian press attache Harpal Singh Bedi said. "How can a person without any accreditation walk past?"
However the woman had been screened to get into Olympic Stadium so there had been no security breach. But her impudence needed to be addressed as she had been on the media scanner and the puzzle heated up, till one media associate revealed her identity. Her father who just released a statement and was later unavailable for comments requested an apology.
'Her father, K. Nagendra, was quoted by the Press Trust of India news agency as saying that his daughter had been chosen to dance in director Danny Boyle's ceremony, and speculated that she might have been asked by organizers to escort India's team into the stadium."This might have hurt our team's feelings. I feel very sorry for that," he was quoted as saying.'
But then S O R R Y is just a five letter word and adds sense when the facts on the issue are dawned. A thorough investigation has to be done on the issue and the International Olympic Association will get to take the stock of the issue. As of now the feelings in the country is surely not supporting her actions and the fury adds as the team is undergoing a miserable outcomes in events. (With inputs from internet-AW AarKay)
