Govt threatens schools, colleges with de-recognition

GovtSchoolEven as the JAC of the Telangana Teachers’ Associations said they had called off their strike and would attend to duties from Tuesday, the state government today threatened managements of private schools and colleges in Telangana to take steps to de-recognize their institutions if they do not reopen on Tuesday.

It may be mentioned that all private schools and colleges in Telangana remained closed since Sept 13 as part of the mass general strike for the sake of Telangana state.

Private school and college managements have said they are caught between the devil and the deep sea on the issue of strike. “If we open, the Telangana agitators will threaten us with dire consequences and if we don’t open, the government will threaten us with de-recognition and it is a hell like situation for us,” said the JAC of the schools and colleges.

The school managements had asked the government to pass a legislation excluding recognized schools and colleges from participating in any sort of strike or bandh.

The administrative machinery across Telangana remained paralyzed during the last one moth as RTC employees, state government employees, Singareni Collieries workers, electricity department staff, doctors, teachers and lawyers participated in the strike demanding the formation of Telangana state.

However, after the RTC staff called off the strike two days ago, teachers’ JAC also announced they had decided to resume duties for the sake of students. “We will work without claiming salaries and signing the registers,” said the JAC of teachers.

While the JAC of the workers of the Singareni Collieries are holding consultations with the Government for withdrawal of strike today, the JAC of the Government employees is still divided on the issue of withdrawing the mass general strike.

Reports said the deputy chief minister Rajanarasimha is in touch with the JAC of the Telangana employees’ associations on calling off the strike and they may also fall in line in a day or two.
