According to the reliable sources in the Congress Party, the Congress High command is keen on giving one of the vacant MLC seats to the former Assembly Speaker, K.R.Suresh Reddy. The Chief Minister, N.Kiran Kumar Reddy has already come up with his preference for Suresh Reddy, when the party high command sought his opinion on the matter.
The CM is planning to induct Suresh Reddy into his cabinet in future in the event of the latter's candidature for the Legislative Council seat is finalised by the party. PCC Chief, D.Srinivas and former minister, Shabbir Ali are also vying for the vacant seat. Fearing that the election of DS to the Legislative Council could pose problems to him in the coming days, Kiran Kumar Reddy is seriously lobbying for the inclusion of Suresh Reddy for the MLC seat.
Further, the CM was learnt to have backed up the case of Suresh Reddy saying that the party can fall back on the option of second category of priority votes in the event of the Jagan group MLAs backing out supporting the election of Suresh Reddy.
The Congress Party should seek the support of its allies from the Assembly, including MIM, for the smooth election of its nominees to the MLC seats, feels a section of the Party.
In such a scenario, the Congress Party can hope to send four MLC seats, together with four other MLCs under the quota of Governor, to the Legislative Council. In return for the support of MIM for the MLC seat, the Congress Party can allot seats to it from the local bodies' quota for the next year MLC elections, perceives the same section of the party.
