The High Court today green signaled the state election authorities to go ahead with conducting the local body elections.

Delivering its order after a week long hearing on a petition filed by one Mr Rammohan challenging the 60 per cent reservations announced by the government, the court said it can’t interfere in the conduct of the local body elections at this stage and said the state election commission can go ahead with issuing notification for the local body elections.

“This is not the right time to go into the issue of quantum of reservations,” said the High Court rejecting the petition.

The high court did not agree with the view of the petitioner who said that local body elections should not be allowed to be conducted with 60 per cent reservations as the Supreme Court earlier imposed a limit of 50 per cent on all types of reservations.
