T cong leaders embark on 48-hour fast

telanganaNotwithstanding the requests of the Chief Minister and PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana not to take up the fast, the Telangana congress leaders today launched their 48-hour fast demanding the separate state of Telangana.

The leaders including party MPs, MLAs and MLCs who had quit their parliamentary and legislative seats demanding quick action on the formation of Telangana state, began their fast at 10 am at the Indira Park in Hyderabad. The fast will continue till 10 am on Friday.

MPs K. Keshava Rao, G. Vivek, G. Sukhender Reddy, S. Rajaiah, K. Rajagopal Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar and Ministers K. Jana Reddy and Basvaraj Saraiah were among those who sat on the fast.

Even though strong rains started lashing the city since early morning, the leaders came to the venue at per their commitment and began the hunger strike. Several senior leaders and activists of the party also sat on the fast.

“We have decided to put pressure on the party and the centre through Gandhian methods to declare Telangana in tune with their commitment made on December 9, 2009,” said the fasting leaders.
