TRS activists attacked the TDP Telangana MLAs with stones when they were on their way to Banswada from Hyderabad today.
The TDP MLAs, who quit from the assembly on Wednesday, today left for Banswada by bus with police escort to take up a campaign in the constituency against the TRS strategy of contesting by elections.
TRS activists, who gathered in good numbers at Baswapur of Bikkanur Mandalam, hurled stones on their bus resulting in an injury to the Kamareddy CI. The police officer sustained injuries to his head in the stony attack.
The TDP leaders came out of their buses and had a fierce argument with the TRS activists who left the place with police interference.
The TDP has taken up a campaign that no party should put up its candidates in the by elections to send a strong signal to the Centre on Telangana. “The TRS is forcing the MLAs of other parties to resign with a view to contest the by elections and increase their strength in the assembly,” the TDP Telangana Forum leaders have alleged.
MLAs arrested
Following the attack on the TDP MLAs’ bus, police stopped their journey and told them to go back to Hyderabad as there were chances of their bus journey leading to further tensions in the district.
The MLAs however refused to go back and resorted to a sit-in on the national highway demanding the police to let them go to Banswada. Police refused their request and arrested them saying they had no permission to move ahead to Banswada. Later, the MLAs were taken to the Ramayampet police station.
