Dirty turn to the ‘The Dirty Picture’ ahead of release

In a dirty turn to the movie ‘The Dirty Picture’ ahead of its release across India on Dec 2, Silk Smita’s brother V Naga Vara Prasad has served a legal notice to the film’s director Milan and producer Ekta Kapoor for making the film without the family’s permission.

The film was based on the life and times of Silk Smitha who once ruled the Telugu film industry with her provoking roles and as an item song dancer. Obviously, the makers of the film decided to release it on Dec 2, the birth day of Silk Smitha whose original name is Vijayalakshmi. She hailed from Kovvali village near the famous Kolleru Lake in West Godavari district.

Mr Prasad told a top journalist that he came to know through TV channels and newspapers that his sister was portrayed in an obscene way. “No one contacted us before making the movie. They have no right to make such a movie on my sister’s life with out our family’s permission,” he said. “My family and relatives were really upset with the news that the film on my sister was made with obscene content.”

He said he has already sent a legal notice to the producer and director of the movie but there was no response. “I am going to send another notice in a day or two through a high court lawyer and if they go ahead with the release of the movie, I will initiate legal proceedings,” he threatened.

He said they are not looking for money from the film makers but are only seeking that the objectionable content be removed from the film which he said was made based on wrong inputs given by Silk Smitha’s boy friend in Chennai. “Who knows better than us the childhood of my sister?” he questioned.

Prasad also said the reports that his sister committed suicide because of financial problems could not be true.

Meanwhile, director Milan Luthria said they have received the notice from Silk Smitha’s brother and his lawyers would respond to it. Vidya Balan has donned the role of Silk Smitha in the movie.
