The YSR Congress Party Spokesperson and a close associate of the Chief, Ambati Rambabu on Sunday appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation in the EMAAR case. He was summoned by the investigation agency as a witness, being the Chairman of Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) from 2005 to 2007. Appearing at the Dilkusha guest house, where the CBI requested his presence, he seems to have washed his hands off the deal.
Mr. Rambabu stated that the alleged irregularities in the APIIC-Emaar Properties scam did not take place during his stint. Infact the deal had taken shape in 2002, under the Telugu Desam party rule. He also added that the APIIC was only a nodal agency and had no special powers. This was made known by Mr. Rambabu, to the waiting journos outside the guesthouse. Adding that the CBI had questioned him as a witness, in EMAAR case only, they made no reference to the YSR Congress Leader, Jagan Mohan Reddy’s assets or dealings.
He ascertained that he had no role in the decisions to decrease the share of APIIC in the project and to include Emaar MGF in the joint venture. As the APIIC was just a nodal agency. All the agreements in connection with all those deals took place during the stint of former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu during 2002.
He said that he had appealed to CBI to investigate into the agreements that took place in 2002 also. Adding that the APIIC suffered heavy losses. This was due to provisions in the GOs issued, during the TDP's regime.
He also said that he was willing to appear before the country’s premier investigating agency, when ever required. He was questioned by the CBI authorities for two-and-a-half hours, during which, he seems to have given the agency details of what happened during his tenure.
