Andhra University has hit the headlines for all bad reasons. A teaching associate and a professor in meteorology and oceanography department sought sexual favour from M. Tech student. The shocking incident came to light when the university authorities handed over the matter to the women redressal cell for an inquiry. It may be noted that the student immediately told her parents about the matter and they raised a complaint with the university on Monday.

Earlier, same allegations came to light against some teaching faculties. When women continuously face challenges the moment she steps out of the house, it’s very unfortunate that they are looked upon as tools of pleasure even by the teachers. The position of ‘guru’ (teacher) is something like next to God in India, but some professors are bringing bad name to the profession itself by indulging in such shameful acts.

The UGC should look into such matters and suspend such faculties immediately lest teaching profession will no more be called noble.  (Phani)
