598 unidentified bodies in last six months

Osmania General Hospital and Gandhi Hospitals are becoming care of addresses for unclaimed bodies in the city. Within five months, as many as 350 unidentified dead bodies were shifted to Osmania Hospital while 248 bodies were shifted to Gandhi hospital.

And recently a 35-year-old male was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Shamshabad area. The postmortem reports said that the person was murdered. While the police are investigating the case, no one has claimed it so far.

This is not the case in the past five months. In fact, this has become almost a daily affair for quite sometime now. Last year 1,641 dead bodies were brought to the hospitals. An official at Osmania General Hospital has said that the dead bodies would be kept in the mortuary for a few weeks and later they would be handed over to GHMC for cremating the bodies. He has also said that only in the special cases, the bodies would be kept in mortuary till they get decomposed.

On the other hand, the police say most of the people whose bodies are not identified belonged to neighboring Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar who come to state in search of work.

The government should promptly look into this issue and take necessary steps to see to it that the alleged sale of unidentified dead bodies doesn’t take place.
