Former minister Ch Vidyasagar Rao has alleged that the government failed in instilling confidence among people in Assam besides putting a check to the riots there. He has said that stringent action should be taken against infiltrators and said there were over 12,000 infiltrators in the country. Further, he has said that integrity cannot be achieved as long as infiltrations continue. It may be noted that over 70 persons were killed in Assam riots and BJP said that they were not communal clashes but the fight between Indians and infiltrators. Meanwhile, some rumours were rife that north east people residing in Bangalore would be attacked to avenge Assam clashes.
This alleged SMS rumours trigerred panic among scores of people, who left for their native states fearing that they would be attacked after Eid-Ul-Fitr. Although government was asking people that situation was under control and no untoward incident will take place, people continued to flee. In the wake of these perceptions, Vidyasagar Rao has held government responsible since it was unable to instil confidence in them.
