Congress core committee meeting has begun at prime minister Manmohan Singh's residence in Delhi. Sonia Gandhi, Chidambaram, Ahmed Patel and AK Antony have taken part in this core committee meeting. The sources said that this meeting was convened to discuss several burning issues including Delhi rape case, the protests in the national capital territory and all party meeting.

Meanwhile, BJP demanded the Centre to arrange Lok Sabha special sessions to discuss Delhi rape case. The sources said that this demand is also going to be discussed in the core committee meeting. It is known that 23-year-old student was allegedly gang raped a week ago, which created uproar across the country and kept the Congress rule under the scanner.

The observers, on the other hand, said that Congress party is most likely to face the wrath of the public due to the gang rape and subsequent clashes in Delhi between protesters and the police. In case something like that happens, sources said, UPA retaining its power in 2014 will be something like a hard nut to crack.
