Raja hits on Vahanvati

Ex Telecom Minister A.Raja points his finger towards the Attorney General G.E.Vahanvati before the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), along with the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the President of India Pranab Mukherjee who was External Affairs Minister at that time in his last statement in writing sent to JPC.

As the case is the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) and as Raja could not attend personally before the Committee, a questionnaire sent by JPC was answered by Raja on 13th March in 17 pages stating that the licensing policy was informed to the Prime Minister and the then External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee. He also said that a letter was sent the Prime Minister on November 2, 2007 informing him about various aspects related the 2G licensing and also had many oral discussions with him. Raja also stated in his reply to JPC that the then External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee was heading the group of ministers working on 2G spectrum.

Raja also gave JPC, the sequence in which the events occurred and also stated that the then Solicitor General Vahanvati was also present in the discussions related to the spectrum license issues and he is telling a lie now. He says that Vahanvati is telling series of lies in this case and quotes Vahanvati’s note that reads “…Thus the Government is obliged to scrutinize the pending applications and if the applicants are found eligible, to issue licenses on a first come first serve basis…”

Raja also contested the statement of Vahanvati that the press release regarding spectrum licenses issued in 2008 was changed in the last minute with a different pen saying that the particular change of pen issue was not raised by the Solicitor General while defending in several courts in the past.
