Malati Chandur Passes Away

Malati Chandur (84) breathed her last on Wednesday at Chennai.  She was suffering from cancer in her stomach surgery of which was delayed for a week as her body was weak to withstand.  After preparing her medically fit the surgery was done on Tuesday after which she talked to everyone till Tuesday evening after which she went in to coma.  Malati Chandur left her body in that condition on Wednesday evening at 5.45.

Malati Chandur is a well known name for Telugu readers.  She earned high regards from women readers for her counseling through Telugu periodicals.  She was a columnist of “Pramadavani” in Andhra Prabha for 47 years which is a world record.  Many got inspired with her suggestions.  Some became IAS due to her encouraging words.  She wrote many novels, short stories and translated 350 books specially selected to introduce to the Telugu readers. She received Center's Sahitya Academy Award for her first Telugu novel "Hridayanetri".

Malati Chandur was born in 1928 at Nuziveedu, Krishna District.  She married her maternal uncle N.R.Chandur in 1948 who too was a poet and writer who died two years ago.  They did not have children.  

Malati Chandur led a simple and disciplined life following her own suggestions to others in leading a righteous way of life.  In fact she told what she actually believed and practiced. She never allowed negative feelings reach her which was her secret of success in her life, as told by her close associates.  She was a great reader of books. She said once that her thirst for reading would never be quenched.  Her book on cooking "Pindi Vantalu" received great acclamation from the women folk.

Many literary personalities, her fans, relatives and lovers of the Telugu literature expressed their grief for the departure of a great soul called Malati Chandur on physical plane.
