Phailin centers at 600 kilometers East-South East from Visakhapatnam and is a very strong one to hit the coastal area of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam. The cyclonic storm formed due to depression in Bay of Bengal is expected to be more devastating than that of Nilam Cyclone in 2012.
As per the weather forecasts, the cyclone is going to move to cross north coastal area of the State towards Odisha going between Kalingapatnam in Srikakulam district and Gopalapur by Saturday at a speed of 175 to 185 kilometers per hour.
The Government has opened control rooms with emergency phone numbers to contact. They are, 08942 240557 and 9A652838191 in Srikakulam district. A toll free number 180042500002 is given for Phailin emergency calling. The Government is confident of tackling the cyclone problem this year unlike during the cyclone of Nilam in 2012.
Like Tsunami is taken from Japanese, Phailin is taken from Thai meaning Sapphire.
