US Ambassador to India Nancy Powell has quit to her post on Monday and is likely to return to the United States later this week. The US Embassy announced this update in its website that Ms Powell resigned however did not cite any specific reason for her resignation.

The 67 year old career diplomat will be retiring from service by this May. Ms Powell is the first woman to occupy Roosevelt House, the residence of the US ambassador in Delhi. Powell took charge on April 19, 2012 and since December 2013, the India-US diplomatic relations have drowned with Devyani Khobragade arrest.

Nancy Powell was also the talk of the town when she met BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on February 13th this year.
