AP special status: TDP, BJP declare war on each other

Special status issue has been a big reason for raising a new fire in between TDP and BJP leaders.

While the ruling TDP is blaming BJP by raking up key issues like non-release of promised central funds and special status, the BJP at a meeting in Kadapa yesterday, declared war against TDP, taking Rayalaseema issues as the weapon.

BJP leaders said that, on May 5th, they would visit Srisailam dam backwaters and also plan to take the state government to task for locating all the projects and schemes in the coastal districts, while neglecting Rayalaseema.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is unhappy with the Centre, for not keeping up the promises made in the AP Reorganization Act.

Reportedly, Naidu recently commented that the Supreme Court had come to the rescue of AP and did justice on the contentious sharing of assets and liabilities of state institutions listed in the 9th and 10th schedules of the AP Reorganisation Act but not the Centre though he has requested it to intervene for the last few months.

Naidu said that, he has visited Delhi 30 times and represented AP’s issues, but Centre is least concerned about it.

On May 4th in Delhi, the Niti Aayog will be holding a day-long meeting, to review the implementation of provisions in the AP Reorganization Act.

Speculations are now taking good hope, that BJP would soon join hands with YSRCP for 2019 elections, as the alliance with TDP has anyway turned ugly, with Naidu fighting against the Centre for the special status and several other issues.

“If the reports that the TD wants to move away from us is true, it is unfortunate. We never tried to weaken the TD. In fact we have pumped a lot of funds to AP and we never betrayed mitra dharma. We are not for moving out of the alliance, we know that the Central funds that have been sanctioned have not been spent for the intended purpose,” AP State BJP president and Visakhapatnam MP K. Haribabu said.

But Mr Vishnuvardhan Reddy said, “So far, we have been a bit hesitant in attacking TD, but we will not tolerate the manner in which the ruling party has been going at us. We know how to expose the state government.

As part of it at the meeting at Kadapa today, we decided to take up agitations against the state government for the injustice it is doing to Rayalaseema.”
