A 16 year old girl in Delhi, committed suicide, for her poor performance in the Chemistry exam.
Reema Sood, a 11th class student at a government school in Maurice Nagar was severely upset over her failure in clearing the Chemistry exam. She returned home with the report card on Tuesday afternoon and hung herself in the bathroom.
2 hours after the girl’s death, the police recovered a suicide note from her bag, revealing Reema’s wish to donate her organs.
“Our priority was to honour Reema’s last wish, so I bypassed police’s questioning and first made sure that the necessary consent for the donation was granted,” Reema’s father Rajesh Kumar said.
Asking the police to find the beneficiaries of their daughter’s organs, Reema’s father said, “It will be a life-long emotional attachment with the persons who receive her eyes. We will want to be associated with them for life.”

Reema’s family members said that, the choice of choosing the science subjects was her own and she wished to be a doctor.
“Reema scored 86 per cent in her class X board exam. She knew the importance of organ donation, but had never spoken to us about her desire to donate,” victim’s elder sister said.
Reema who failed the Chemistry subject in the main exam, had to attempt the same in compartmental exam.
“She was unable to attend a few questions, but had told me she was confident of passing the compartmental exam. We never pressurized her to score high marks and even offered her the choice to change her stream if she wanted to,” father said.
After declaring the results on Tuesday, Reema had asked her father to pick up from the school.
“I reached her school to learn that she had failed. We returned home together after which she went into her room and sat with her head in her hands,” said Rajesh.
Dropping the girl at home, her father, along with his son went out on a work. It was later, Reema walked into the bathroom and as her mother’s repeated attempts to get a response failed. She then called and neighbors, and broke the bathroom door open.
“She was still breathing when she was brought down from the shower pipe. She was rushed to a local medical centre from where she was referred to St Stephen’s Hospital. She was declared brought dead there,” said Reema’s uncle Akash Lal.
It was when the police decided to check her school bag that they discovered two suicide notes inside a notebook.
One note seemed to have been written much before her results were declared.
“In that she had written that she would have no reason to be alive if she failed in the exam. The other suicide note, which was possibly written just before she left her school for home on Tuesday, mentioned about her desire to donate her eyes,” said a police officer.
Reema’s father works with the Delhi University and she lived with her family in the staff quarters in Maurice Nagar.
“She was always focused on studies and did not make any friends. If she had friends she could share her problems and my daughter would have been alive today,” said her father.
