As a part of his 5 Nation Tour, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived today in Mexico. He will hold talks with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto on bilateral issues and NSG membership.
Modi is expected to discuss a host of issues with President Nieto including India's NSG membership bid.
The Prime Minister's Office tweeted "Reached Mexico City. The visit is brief but substantial ground will be covered in my talks with @PresidenciaMX: PM.”
This is the first bilateral visit of PM Modi. In 2012, then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had visited Mexico to attend the G20 summit.
"Hola Mexico! PM @narendramodi lands in Mexico city for an important evening of diplomacy," External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted.
Prime Minister Modi was received by Mexico's Foreign Minister Claudia Ruiz Massieu.
"A familiar face. PM @narendramodi is received by Ms Claudia Ruiz Massieu Salinas, Foreign Minister," Mr Swarup said in another tweet.
"I look forward to meeting President Pena Nieto on June 8 during my visit to Mexico, a privileged partner in the Latin American region," PM Modi had said ahead of his five nation tour that also took him to Afghanistan, Qatar, Switzerland and the US.
"President Pena Nieto has ushered in far reaching reforms. I look forward to sharing our experiences. This is the first Prime Ministerial bilateral visit to Mexico after 30 years. Though short, the visit has a substantial agenda to take our partnership to new heights," he said.
