Telangana Heading For Panchayat Polls:- After the Assembly polls came to an end in Telangana, the state is heading for Panchayat elections which will take place in January 2019 in three phases. The State Election Commission revealed the news. The elections will be held in 12,734 panchayats in three phases as it is quite impossible to conduct them in a single day. The number of Panchayats in Telangana have been increased from 8363 to 12734. The term for the gram panchayats in Telangana ended on August 1st this year but the elections have been postponed after the state's Assembly got dissolved.

State Election Commission revealed that ballot papers will be used for the elections. The SEC rejected the proposal of EVMs and decided to go ahead with ballot papers. All the necessary arrangements are being made accordingly. District Panchayat Officers (DPOs) have been asked to complete all the arrangements by the end of December. The notification on panchayat polls will be issued during the last week of December. The Supreme Court recently ordered that the reservations for BCs, SCs and STs should not exceed 50%.
